This past Saturday night saw the opening of Central Park’s SummerStage in New York City. Legendary R&B singer Mavis Staples headlined the event, with support from Toshi Reagon.
As one of the voices of the ’60s Civil Rights, Mavis commented on the similarities of the political struggles today, adding weight to her cover of Stephen Stills’s, “For What it’s Worth”, “Respect Yourself” and finishing off with her legendary hit, “I’ll Take You There”. Staples is currently touring in support of her latest record, Livin’ On A High Note.
