Stephen Colbert made his mark on the music festival game this weekend with Stephest Colbchella ‘012 Rocktaugust Festival, a waterfront concert hosted at the most patriotic of venues, the Intrepid Air, Sea & Space Museum in New York City. Friday’s intimate event allowed only 1,500 attendees, and featured performances by Grizzly Bear, Santigold, Fun., and The Flaming Lips.
The night culminated when Colbert (dressed in an admiral’s uniform) joined the Flaming Lips on stage, and together frontman Wayne Coyne and Mr. Colbchella himself surfed the crowd in matching space bubbles.
Stay tuned for our onboard interview with Wayne Coyne, and in the meantime check out Joe Papeo’s photos from the deck of the historic Intrepid.
And be sure to watch The Colbert Report on Comedy Central all this week to see performances from Colbchella ‘012!
