3x GRAMMY® Award-winner Fantastic Negrito has shared a stark and beautiful official music video for the recently released single, “I Hope Somebody’s Loving You.” A rare ballad for Fantastic Negrito, the song is taken from his new album, Son of a Broken Man (Storefront Records), arriving everywhere next Friday, October 18. Pre-orders are available now.
“This video encapsulates the feeling of desolation and loneliness that the song conveys,” says Fantastic Negrito. “It can be a lonely world out there.”
The single, “I Hope Somebody’s Loving You,” was released last month as a double A-side along with the song, “Crooked Road.”
“Try not to cheat on your woman try not to cheat on your man,” says Fantastic Negrito of “I Hope Somebody’s Loving You.” “ I’ve been on tour a long time. I’ve spent so many days weeks and months away from home and encountered so many beautiful people on the planet and this just became a common theme in my head and heart –I hope we are all experiencing a version of love.
“I wrote ‘Crooked Road’ about determination, never giving up, deep breath, reset, refresh,” he continues. “This has been the theme of my life and it continues to be. I thrive off inspiration and this song embodied it for me. We might think that our life has serious challenges, but trust me, someone else out there has even more than you.”
Son of a Broken Man was first heralded in early September with the premiere of two album highlights, “California Loner” and “Runaway From You.” The new album sees Fantastic Negrito encapsulating the inimitable elements of his celebrated body of work to date, from hard-hitting distorted guitar riffs to melodic and expressive ballads, all fueled by the unexpected twists that have become his trademark. The album stands as perhaps Fantastic Negrito’s most personal thus far, exploring family, deception, and the human desire to hide the true self as he dives deep into one of the oldest conflicts in human history, the struggle between father and son. Beginning at a young age, Negrito was served untruths by his father. A made-up last name, a fabricated ancestry, and a fake Somali accent. Why lie? Why create this false narrative? Those are the questions Negrito had to ask himself and the questions that lie at the heart of Son of a Broken Man.
