The Los Angeles-based collective, Tall Tales & The Silver Lining, recently dropped its seventh album, Tightropes, showcasing modern LA rock at its finest. Front man Trevor Beld Jimenez leads the Tall Tales in this sweet, upbeat soundtrack inspired by ’70’s rock legends like Joni Mitchell and Neil Young.
Tightropes sets the bar high from the beginning with the opening track, “Something to Believe In”, a bright, bouncy synth and guitar tune. This song is so West Coast, it will have you longing for a view of a sunset off the Santa Monica Pier. Meanwhile, other tracks on the LP, “Harder for You”, “Wade Through the Storm”, and “Unknown Forces” are jazzy, electric numbers channeling early Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers.
If Tall Tales & The Silver Lining set out to produce an LP that would secure them a time slot somewhere between Janis and Jimi at the ’67 Monterey Pop Festival, they’ve succeeded. Tightropes is an instant modern classic.
