I’m a fan of routine. A man who likes to keep his legs firmly planted in the boots he’s worn for years (you know what I mean). I like constants. I like things that remain the same, with no variation. You know, like keeping my Wednesday night tradition of staying home and catching up on laundry. Why spoil a good thing, right?
Well, maybe I also like to live on the edge and was just really lying to you the whole time. What if I told you that maybe last Wednesday I was actually frolicking about, with a belly-fulla-bourbon, lookin’ for some good tunes, and happened to stumble into a dusty room to find one of the catchiest acts you will hear of this year and next…LA’s Thick as Thieves. And what I stumbled upon continues to penetrate my thick skull since the minute the melodies soared from the stage.
I had never heard of Thick as Thieves until this very point (shame on me), and I really did not know what to expect. I am going to throw some words and associations out there and see if you can even try and connect the dots…Red Hot Chili Peppers, White Stripes, Black Keys, Death From Above 1979, Kings of Leon, Anthony Kiedis crossed with David Beckham, Jennifer Lawrence, and Tupac who have created Bluesy-Jammy-Country-Poppy-Rocky-Reggae-CROWD BANGING ANTHEMS. Ok, I went a little overboard there, but sometimes the line needs to be crossed.
The show itself was a record release party for their new album Love Me Blind, and showcased why, with a little bit of elbow grease, they could be headlining huge monster tours, filling astronomically sized arenas and selling out crowds across the land.
I would even go out on a limb and say that each member of the band has such a unique draw and character in context of the situation that it sometimes is hard to tell who is leading the effort; but that’s a very good thing, because the talent that these young folks possess is simply remarkable. By the time they were finished, everyone was on their feet dancing and clapping, and sure some of them were friends of the band, but I was one of those leading the hellacious cheers – and I had never even heard of these guys (and gal) before.
The title track alone has so many different feels, it is impossible to take this all in on one listen alone. Oh and you wont need to worry about that, because you will literally be playing these songs over and over for days. It is the catchiest thing you haven’t heard yet!
Seems like all they need now is the right spotlight turned on and they will be destined for greatness. Go check ’em out and tell me that this representation of Americana culture wouldn’t be loved up on by millions and millions of people at a time! But, for now, keep your ears and eyes open, because I think you will be hearing a lot more from the name Thick as Thieves in the near future.

Spot on! This is the band of the future (and I"m not saying that because I'm the one who released their excellent record).
Thank you for being there!
