Words & Photos by Rod Snyder
St. Paul & The Broken Bones arrived at Philadelphia’s Fillmore, returning to the area for the first time in a few years. They are back on the road in support of their latest release, “The Alien Coast”, which was just released in January 2022.
The night featured a nice selection of songs, spanning the band’s career, including an instrumental titled “Sad Cockadoodaloo” and a section after the song “Gotitbad”. The 7 piece backing band – aka The Broken Bones -sounded incredibly funky and tight: each member really stood out and when paired with lead singer Paul Janeway’s incredible voice. It made for some great sounding music.
A highlight of the night was the song “Broken Bones & Pocket Change” which showcased Janeway’s signature powerfful voice, but this night he laid on the stage and straddled one of the long LED stage lights. The crowd went absolutely wild as he did this, and didn’t miss a beat while he belted out the words, “Broken Bones & Pocket Change”.
St. Paul & The Broken Bones is on a lengthy tour, and as of this writing, has its last date in September. Make sure to get out and see this band live!
