The rock gods were shining bright on Forest Hills Stadium on Saturday night, as My Morning Jacket and Gary Clark Jr. packed a one-two punch of solid performances for the Queens crowd.
Hailing from Austin, Texas, special guest Gary Clark Jr. opened the show with his all-American blend of blues rock. Fans got their air-guitar practice in early on, as Clark slayed a quick set that included soulful staples like “Bright Lights” and “Numb”. Be sure to catch Clark and his crew at Madison Square Garden this September, when they play in support of the one and only Eric Clapton.
Soon the main event was at hand, and Kentucky’s own My Morning Jacket emerged to feverish applause. Together Jim James & Co. charmed their crowd from the start, slowly building up to fan favorites like “Golden”, “Evil Urges”, and “Off The Record”. Once the sun set over New York, the moon had to compete with a massive disco ball that hung from the stage, sending bursts of light spinning throughout the stadium as the headliners jammed out on an epic four-song encore.
