The 2013 New Music Seminar took Manhattan from June 9th-11th, hosting a meeting of the minds for music industry professionals.
Webster Hall (aka NMS headquarters) was packed with fans gearing up to see The Soul Rebels at the Seminar’s Opening Night Red Carpet Event, which kicked off a series of concerts showcasing the latest bands on the rise.
In a similar vein, other acts that performed as part of this year’s New Music Seminar rocked The Living Room, The Delancey and other music rooms peppering Manhattan’s Lower East Side at night, while representatives from Pandora, Clear Channel, Rhapsody and Spotify to offer industry insight gathered for the Seminar during the day.
NYC natives The Postelles did their part to keep the NMS momentum going strong at the Studio @ Webster Hall on Tuesday (see our photos and review here). Also on Tuesday were performances by Cambatta and Brooklyn hip-hop band DownBeat Keys, who tore it up at Cake Shop on Ludlow Street with duo Cold Fronts, a New Music Seminar Artist on the Verge. Raccoon Fighter later closed the night’s set.
At Pianos, rockers Twin Wave, The Grizzled Mighty, Friend Roulette and Life Size Maps rocked the city while Brooklyn’s Ghost Pal dazzled audiences with psychedelic soul, and This Good Robot kicked it up a notch with a setlist of sci-fi mash ups.
Whether you were an aspiring singer-songwriter geared up to debut your new tracks to a captive audience, job-seeker hoping to find your way in an ever-changing industry, or simply an avid follower of New York’s bustling downtown scene, it’s safe to say this year’s New Music Seminar was paradise.
